lecture 3 campus Flashcards
what is special about the olfactory nerve
it does not enter or exit through the brainstem , it is the first cranial nerve and it is developed from the telencephalon
what is special about the optic nerve
it does not go through the brainstem and it is the second cranial nerve , and it is developed from the diencephalon
where does the information of smell sense go through ?
olfactory bulb –>olfactory tract –>lateral olfactory stria –> the first olfactory cortex in uncus
this information does not go through the thalamus
retina in the eye is :
part of the CNS and it is developed from the diencephalon and it is the final stage for light travel in the eyeball
how does light go through the retina :
photoreceptors–>bipolar cells –>ganglion cells
how does information go through the retina :
photoreceptors –>bipolar cells –>ganglion cells
the nasal of the retina is:
the part that is closer to the nose and it receives information from the same side and it crosses to the other side in the way to the thalamus , in addition information from the lateral parts come through the nasal
the temporal of the retina is:
sees the other side of field of view
what does contralateral means
that the hemisphere works on the information from the other side of the field of view
what does it mean that the organization of the information is retinotopy
that information is processed in the cortex as the way it is processed in the retina , (the opposite of how it is in the field of view)
Mayer’s loop :
the way the information on the upper side of the field view go through to get to the bottom part of the cortex , someone could have blindness 1/4 of the field of vision that is in the upper section
what is the difference between optic nerve and optic chiasm
optic nerve has information from one eye , but the optic chiasm has information from one side of the field vision
nerves responsible for eyeball movement are :
3,4,6
oculomotor , trochlear , abducens
(3,4) are developed from the mesencephalon and the 6th is developed from metencephalon (under the pons)
eye muscles :
superior , inferior , lateral ,medial rectus muscles and
superior , inferior oblique muscles
the 3rd nerve
oculomotor nerve , responsible for 4 eye muscles , and the opening of the eye , and it is parasympathetic
parasympathetic nervous system
rest and digest
sympathetic nervous system
fight or flight
the 4th nerve
trochlear nerve exits from the dorsal part of brainstem , it is responsible for the superior oblique muscle
