What is psychosis
A mental state characterised by symptoms of unusual beliefs, experiences and thoughts, arising from physical or psychological causes
Symptoms of psychosis are seen in people who have
Schizophrenia
Positive symptoms of schizophrenia
-Hallucinations

A hallucination is
A psychotic symptom that an individual can’t recognise or verify that it’s not real
What is the difference between second person and third person auditory hallucinations
Second person- talking to me
Third person- others talking about me
What are persecutory delusions
-Paranoid
-Patients believe people are trying to harm them
What are referential delusions
-Bizarre
-Delusions are impossible and not derived from everyday life experience
What are grandiose delusions
Individuals believe themselves to have special powers, abilities or authority
What are nihilistic delusions
Individuals believe they’re dead or do not exist
What are somatic delusions
Individuals believe something is happening to their body
What is anosognosia
Patient is unaware of their neurological deficit or psychiatric condition
Negative symptoms of schizophrenia
-Diminished emotional expression
-Avolition
-Alogia
-Anhedonia
-asociality
What is avolition
Decrease in motivated, self initiated activities, show little interest in participating in work or social activities
What is alogia
Diminished speech output
What is anhedonia
Decreased ability to experience pleasure from positive stimuli
