Lecture 29: Mendelian Inheritance Flashcards
Who was the person who conducted the first successful experiment using variation elucidate the principles by which genetic information was transmitted?
Gregor Mendel
How did Mendels experiments differ than all those around him going on at the same time?
1) he used varieties within the same species which differed in a few, easily observable characteristis
2) in his crosses he concentrated upon single, easily observable differences or characters
3) because he concentrated on discreet, recognisable characters, Mendel could score the frequency with which the parental characters were manifested in the offspring and analyse his data numerically.
There is a whole lot of blabber about how Mendel came to these conclusions
