Lecture 28: Male repro organs Flashcards
What role does the gubernaculum play?
connects the lower pole of the gonad to the future inguinal canal (for descent reasons)
What is the capillary network of the testes
Rete testis and efferent ductules
What is the position of the head of the epididymis?
craniodorsal
What are the two ligaments of the testes
ligament of the tail of the epididymis and the proper ligament
Layers of the scrotum (outer to inner)
Skin (epidermis and dermis), tunica dartos, spermatic fascia (external and internal), parietal vaginal tunic, vaginal cavity, visceral vaginal tunic, tunica albuginea
What is the role of the tunica dartos?
Forms the scrotal septum and helps regulate internal temp
where does the cremaster muscle originate?
it originates free border of the internal abdominal oblique m.
where does the cremaster muscle insert?
on the spermatic fascia and the parietal vaginal tunic
where is colliculus seminalis located and whats it a continuation of?
its located on dorsal surface of prostatic urethra and is a continuation of the urethral crest
What are the three regions of the canine penis
root, body, glans
Name the three muscles associated with canine penis
bulbospongiousus m. (around bulb of penis), Ischiocavernosus m. (from ischiatic tuberosities to crura of penis), retractor penis m. (from external anal sphincter to the gland, caudoventral)
What does the ligament of the tail of the epididymis connect?
Parietal vaginal tunic with the tail of the epididymis
What does the proper ligament of the testis connect?
Tail of the epididymis to the testis
What nerve innervates the cremaster muscle?
Genitofemoral nerve (L3-L4)
What are the components of the cranial spermatic cord
Testicular a/v, pampiniform plexus, testicular lymphatics and testicular nerve
What are the components of the caudal spermatic cord
Ductus deferens, deferent a/v, internal cremaster m
What meso- connects the deferent duct to the mesofuniculum
mesoductus deferens
What meso- connects the vascular portion of the testis to the mesofuniculum?
mesorchium
Preputial orifice role in erection
compresses dorsal veins of penis
Ischial arch role in erection
compresses dorsal veins of penis
ischiourethralis muscle role in erection
restricts venous return
What is the preputial orifice
ostium - opening of the prepuce
What is the preputial fornix
fundus - just caudal to glans
Name the 4 erectile tissues of the penis
corpus cavernosum penis (starts in root), corpus spongiosum penis (hugs urethra), corpus spongiosum glandis of the bulbus glandis (caudal glans), corpus spongiosum glandis of pars longa glandis (cranial glans)
What are the testicular parenchyma and seminiferous tubules
Regions of the testes where sperm is produced in the seminiferous tubules
