Lecture 24 Flashcards
What is IL-10?
Anti-inflammatory cytokine
What are IEL’s?
A type of CD8 T cell— intercalate INTO the intestinal epithelial cells without disrupting the barrier
What are the features of intestinal macrophages?
Phagocytose bacteria and apoptotic cells, do not cause inflammation
How do intestinal DC’s contribute to intestinal immune “calming”
They produce IL-10 in response to antigen uptake in the Peyer’s Patch
Why do you want to decrease inflammation in the gut?
Severe inflammation in the gut is more likely to exacerbate the infection than
clear it, and is the cause of a variety of chronic human diseases.
What is Fab and Fc?
Fab: antigen-binding fragments
Fc: non-antigen binding fragments (can crystallize)
What are the three types of Fc receptors?
- transport antibody across membrane
- activation of cell function
- inhibition of a cell function
What is the PigR?
Transport Fc receptor— binds to Fc regions of antibodies that have J chains and goes across the mucosal epithelial layer
- remains attached to the IgM/IgA as a secretory piece and binds to the mucosal layer
