Lecture 2.1 - Describing Categorical Data - Frequency distributions Flashcards
1
Q
Frequency Distributions
A
- Freq. distribution: listing of distinct values and their frequencies for qualitative data.
- Each row of freq. table lists a category and its count.
2
Q
Construct a frequency distribution
A
- Create a frequency table by listing the distinct values of the observations in the first column.
- Use tally marks to represent the frequency of each distinct value in the second column.
- Count the tally marks and record the total frequency in the third column.
3
Q
Freqency table in a google sheet
A
- Select data to visualize.
- Click on Data option in the formatting bar.
- Select Pivot Table and create a new sheet.
- In Pivot Table Editor, add rows and values.
4
Q
Relative Frequency
A
- Relative frequency = frequency / total number of observations.
- To calculate, obtain a frequency distribution and divide each frequency by the total number of observations.
