Categorical and numerical variables

A
  1. Categorical variable is also called qualitative variable and identifies group membership.
  2. Numerical data is also called quantitative variable and describes numerical properties of cases with measurement units.
  3. Measurement units are scales that define the meaning of numerical data such as weights in Kg, prices in rupees, heights in centimeters, etc.
  4. The data that make up a numerical variable in a data table must share a common unit.
