Social determinants of Health
What are determinants of health
causes
the range of personal, social, economic, environmental and biological factors which determine the health status of individuals or populations
they can be modifiable or unmodifiable
Social Support
an interpersonal transaction between two or more people involving one or more of emotional concern, instrumental aid, information, appraisal
How does social support impact health
increases a person’s ability to cope with a stressor and reduces the negative effects of the stressor
improves adherence with medical regimens
consistent relationship between lack of social relationships and all cause mortality
What is the socioeconomic position
the position an individual on a social economic scale that measures factors like education, income, type of occupation, place of residence, etc…
How does early childhood/ education affect health
carry our early childhood experiences under our skin our entire lives
lead to obesity, heart disease, Mental illnesses, aging and memory loss, hypertension, non-insulin dependent diabetes
What is HiAP
health in all policies
large scale action to improve health through attention to the full range of health determinants
