What is Facility based adapted PA?
Isolation, corrective therapy, neglect, person viewed as a patient in need of a cure. No sport participation
What is Service based adapted PA?
Adapted physical education, special programs and services, skill improvement. defined as their disability and not an individual
What is Support based adapted PA
Adapted physical activity, viewed as part of human variations but difficulties arise in person-environment interaction, support provided to participate in inclusive environments
What is Empowerment and self-determination adapted PA?
Adapted Physical activity, focus on choice, decision making, self-awareness and regulation learning
What is the school based sport setting? Examples
Within the school
- Intramural sports
- School sport clubs
What is the Interscholastic sport setting?
Emphasis on competition against other schools
What is Community sport setting?
Offered by recreational centers or sport clubs run by local organizations
What is College sport setting?
Sport programs affiliated with college/university emphasis on competition
What is Open sport setting?
Anyone of any ability can participate
What is Segregated sport?
Adapted sport solely for individuals with disabilities (paraolympics)
What is Unified sport?
Promotes competition between teams of athletes with and without disabilities
What is General sport (reasonable accommodation)
The opportunity for athletes with disabilities to participate in general sport settings with minimal modifications
