Lecture 2: Amino acids in protiens Flashcards
1
Q
hemoglobin mutation where there is a neutral amino acid in glu6
A
Sickle cell disease
2
Q
hemoglobin mutation where there is a positive amino acid in glu6
A
Hemoglobin C disease
3
Q
Glycosylation vs Glycation
A
Glycosylation - normal, enzyme mediated that increases solubility of protein. Can be O linked (Negative AAs) or N linked (Positive AAs -arginine). These are used on red blood cell surface to determine ABO blood type.
Glycation - not normal, hemoglobin glycated by blood glucose from too high of blood sugar, determind by Hb A1C level.
4
Q
Binding lipids to proteins
A
Allows proteins to be inserted in plasma membrane without having a transmembrane region.
