nature not objective, but depends on cultural and historical background. ‘Real things’ are actually ‘social’ constructed. We can only know things how we classify them and those are products of culture and society.
critical realist view on nature
reality is layered, nature is not just what society says it is. Humans do not construct nature as they please
alternative views on nature
- discource/ meanings (talked/written about nature)
- embodiment (how people experience it)
- space (local, national, global forms of nature)
- time (changing ideas of tiem in relation to natural cycles)
- activity (action upon, with and in relation to nature)

- historical or primary nature
- cultivated landscapes, field meadows
- urban green spaces, gardens & parks
- urban wilderness that has grown more or less tamed (Brache)
three strategies to achieve sustainability
- efficiency
- sufficiency
- consistency

more efficient use of materials, energy etc. (care use less gasoline per km)
sufficiency
changing lifestyle, reducing demand for goods and services
consistency
improving the materials of products, so that it has an longer lifecycles, or recyclable
