Lecture 19: Tibiofibular Joints Flashcards
1
Q
proximal (superior) tibiofibular joint
A
- b/w head of fib and lat epicondyle/plateau of tibia
- planar synovial
- strong capsule
- not much movement but allows slight elevation during dorsiflexion
2
Q
distal (inferior) tibiofibular joint
A
- medial surface of distal fib w/ fibular notch of tibia
- syndesmosis (amphi)
- very little movement
- stabilizes the ankle
3
Q
interosseous tibiofibular ligament
A
- runs from sup tibia to inf fibula
- allows slight elevation of fibula
4
Q
inferior transverse ligament
A
- runs from medial malleolus to lateral malleolus
- restricts posterior slide of talus
5
Q
what 3 structures form the mortise (the “backrest” of the talus)?
A
- medial malleolus
- lateral malleolus
- inf transverse ligament
