Lecture 17: Lumbosacral Plexus (Hip, Thigh) Flashcards
superior cluneal nerves
- L1-L3
- sensory to skin of superior buttock
middle/medial cluneal nerves
- S1-S3
- sensory to skin of sacrum/anus and adjacent buttock
inferior cluneal nerves
- S2 and S3
- sensory to skin of inferior buttock (over glute max)
Posterior Cutaneous Nerve to Thigh
- S1-S3
- sensory to skin of inferior buttock, posterior medial thigh, posterior popliteal fossa
Pudendal n.
- S2-S4
- supplies organs in perineum
sciatic n.
- L4-S3
- contains both tibial and fibular nerves
what structures are innervated by the tibial nerve?
- hamstrings
- post calf area
- plantar surface of foot
what structures are innervated by the fibular nerve?
- lateral compartment
- fibularis muscles
- anterior compartment (extensor muscles)
superior gluteal n.
- L4-S1
- posterior division nerve
- motor to gluteal muscles and TFL
- comes out of greater sciatic foramen with sciatic n.
inferior gluteal n.
- L5-S2
- posterior division nerve
- motor to glute muscles and TFL
- also comes out of greater sciatic foramen
Nerve to Quadratus Femoris
anterior division nerve to lateral rotator muscles
Nerve to Obturator Internus
anterior division nerve to lateral rotator muscles
femoral n.
- L2-L4
- posterior division nerve
- goes through the pelvic cavity (base of iliac fossa) and subinguinal space
- supplies quads, sartorius, iliacus, half of pectineus
obturator n.
- L2-L4
- anterior division nerve
- runs with femoral
- branches off at the ilium and goes through obturator foramen
- supplies obturator externus, adductor longus/brevis, ant part of adductor magnus, gracilis, and half of pectineus
