Q
What may lung diseases affect?
A
- Pulmonary arteries e.g. vasculitis, pulmonary emboli.
- Bronchi e.g. asthma, bronchitis, bronchiectasis.
- Lung parenchyma e.g. pneumonia, lung cancer, emphysema, chronic interstitial lung diseases, inhalation diseases.
2
Q
What are common lung abnormalities?
A
- Pneumonia.
- Lung cancer - primary or metastases.
- Trauma.
- Pulmonary emboli.
- Cardiac failure (CHF).
- Chronic diffuse lung disease.
3
Q
Important questions when looking at chest x-rays?
A
- Pattern of lung abnormality:
- Focal.
- Mutifocal.
- Diffuse. - Acute or chronic (history is critical.
- Other clues e.g. cardiomegaly.
4
Q
When doing a chest x-ray what else do you need to consider?
A
- History; symptoms, time course.
- Exam.
- CXR appearance.
5
Q
Describe multifocal?
A
Acute: -Infection specifically TB, staphylococcus pneumonia. Sub-acute or Chronic: -Metastases. -Sarcoidosis.
6
Q
Describe diffuse lung disease?
A
Acute: -Fluid e.g. pulmonary oedema. -Pus e.g. pneumonia. -Blood e.g. good pastures. Chronic: -Destruction e.g. emphysema. -Malignancy. -Fibrotic lung disease >100.
7
Q
Describe the distribution of chronic diffuse lung diseases?
A
Upper Lobes: -Tb -Sarcoidosis -Silicosis. Lower Lobes: -UIP (peripheral). -Asbestosis. Anywhere: -Lymphangitic metasases.
8
Q
