Lecture 17 - Muscles Of The Arm Flashcards
1
Q
What are the 5 muscles of the arm?
A
- biceps Brachii
- brachialis
- coracobrachialis
- triceps Brachii
- anconeus
2
Q
What is the biceps Brachii?
A
- the superficial muscle on the anterior arm
- biceps = “two heads”
3
Q
What is the origin of the biceps Brachii?
A
- Long head (lateral) - supraglenoid tubercle of scapula
- Short head (medial) - coracoid process of scapula
4
Q
What is the insertion/innervation/main action of the biceps Brachii?
A
- I: Radial tuberosity
- Inn: Musculotaneous nerve
- MA: Radio-Ulnar (forearm) supination, Elbow Flexion, Shoulder Flexion via long head
5
Q
What is the origin/insetion/innervation/main action of the brachialis?
A
- O: Anterior humerus 1/3 down shaft
- I: Ulnar tuberosity and coronoid process of the ulna
- Inn: Musculocutaneous Nerve
- MA: Elbow flexion
6
Q
What is the origin/insetion/innervation/main action of the coracobrachialis?
A
- O: Coracoid process of scapula
- I: Medial shaft of humerus (mid shaft)
- Inn: Musculocutaneous Nerve
- MA: Shoulder flexion & Shoulder adduction
7
Q
What are the 3 origins of the triceps Brachii?
A
- LONG HEAD: Infraglenoid tubercle of the Scapula
- LATERAL HEAD: Just distal to the greater tubercle on the posterior humerus
- MEDIAL HEAD: Deep, about halfway down the posterior humeral shaft
8
Q
What is the insertion/innervation/main action of the triceps Brachii?
A
- I: Olecranon process of the ulna
- Inn: Radial Nerve
- MA: Elbow extension & Shoulder extension (long head only)
9
Q
What is the origin/insetion/innervation/main action of the anconeus?
A
- O: Lateral epicondyle of the humerus
- I: Olecranon process of the ulna
- Inn: Radial nerve
- MA: Elbow extension, Abducts distal ulna during pronation
