What should a pharmacist do if a prescription does not have a refill quantity?
Prescription may not be refilled unless the pharmacist is subsequently authorized to do so by the practitioner
What is a drug order?
Written order for a drug or device for a patient in an inpatient institution
What is a prescription?
Written order for a drug device for an outpatient

In what case are prescriptions and drug orders no longer valid?
If they have no legitimate medical purpose
In which settings can mechanical storage devices be utilized?
-Pharmacy that holds a permit issued by the Indiana BoP

What powers are granted to members of the Indiana BoP and designated BoP members?

We may dispense a generic equivalent
What must the pharmacist do if the patient presents with Medicaid or the children’s health insurance program?
Substitute the product that results in the lowest price
When must a pharmacist give a patient with Medicaid or CHIP a brand name drug?
-The words brand medically necessary are written or electronically transmitted on the prescription in the practitioner’s own handwriting
-The practitioner orally states that a generic equivalent may not be substituted, and subsequently forwards a covering prescription that has brand medically necessary included
When may a biologic be substituted?
-The product has been determined to be interchangeable by the FDA
