What is the main goal of the board of pharmacy?
Protect the public and enforce laws and rules that govern pharmacy
What does it mean when a license is revoked?
License is permanently taken away
What does it mean when a license is suspended?
License taken away temporarily
What does it mean when someone is placed on probation?
Can practice but with limits or additional requirements
What is a letter of reprimand?
Written expression of disapproval (describe what the practitioner did wrong)
What is a censure?
Verbal expression of disapproval
What is the maximum fine?
Up to $1000 for each violation
What is a surrender?
-When a practitioner petitions the board to surrender their license INSTEAD of a hearing (board may or may not agree to accept)
-Board may impose additional conditions on the surrender
-Board can not enforce a surrender
When may a board require a physical or mental examination?
Must stem from a disciplinary hearing in which the practitioner’s physical or mental ability to practice is at issue
What conditions may the board impose on a probationary license?
-Report regularly to the board on the matters requiring a probationary license
-Limit practice to those areas prescribed by the board
-Continue or renew professional education
-Engage in community service as directed by the board
-Perform, or refrain from performing, an act that the board considers appropriate to public interest
Which prescribers are not required to transmit controlled substances electronically?
Veterinarians and medical residents

What cannot be prescribed via telehealth?
Opioids unless it is a partial agonist used to treat or manage opioid dependence
When must a prescription for opioids be written for only 7 days?
-If the prescription is for an adult being prescribed an opioid for the first time by the prescriber
-If the prescription is for a child less than 18 years old
-If the prescription is for an animal for the first time by the veterinarian
When does the 7 day limitation of opioid prescription not apply?
-Cancer
-Palliative care
-Medication-assisted treatment for a substance use disorder
-A condition that is exempted by the medical licensing board
-If in the prescribers professional judgement, a patient requires more than the prescriptions limitations
When must a pharmacist dispense a partial fill?
-If the patient requests
-If a representative of the patient requests

What must a pharmacist do if an opioid prescription is partially filled?
-Comply with 21 USC 829
