Lecture 17 Flashcards

1
Q

Location of cerebellum

A

Post to brainstem and inferior to occipital and temporal lobes
-Sits in posterior fossa in base of skill,
-seprated from inferior part of temporal and occipital lobes by tentorium cerebelli,
-separted from brainstem by 4th ventricle

9
Q

How do you make the cerebellum

A

folia increase surface area, shape if stretched out: have anterior lobe, primary fissue, posterior lobe, postero-lateral fissure, and flocular-nodular lobe

Q

functional regions of the cerebellum

A

-vermis- worm like centre region
-intermediate- medial 1/3 next to vermis
-lateral- lateral region
-flocculo-nodular- contain floculus and nodulus

Q

Identify cerebellar nuclei associated with regions

A

-dentate= lateral zone
-interposed= intermediate zone, includes globos nuclei and imboliform nuclei
-fastigial nucelus= vermis + flacculonodular zone

Accronym for cerebelar nuclei

A

DEGF (dont eat greasy food):
dentate (laterally), emboliform, globose, fastigial nuclei (medially)

14
Q

Describe cerebellar peduncles

A

-broad bands of white matter. ALl information carried to and from cerebellum via cerebellar peduncles,
-at pons level, wraps around the pons and enters into cerebellum

16
Q

Function of superior cerebellar peduncle

A

Mostly carrying outputs from cerebellum once processed

17
Q

Function of middle and inferior peduncles

A

-carrying info coming into cerebellum, then it is processed

18
Q

Describe processing of information in the cerebellum

A

Info into cerebellum, processing in grey outer (cortex) region- transfered to deep cerebellar nuclei and outputs back out of cerebellum
