Lecture 17 Flashcards
Location of cerebellum
Post to brainstem and inferior to occipital and temporal lobes
-Sits in posterior fossa in base of skill,
-seprated from inferior part of temporal and occipital lobes by tentorium cerebelli,
-separted from brainstem by 4th ventricle
three lobes of the cerebellum
-anterior lobe , posterior lobe, flocculo-nodular lobe
Folds of cerebellum
folia
Location of grey mater of cerebellum
outside (forming cortex)
Location of white matter of cerebellum
inside
flocculo-nodular lobe made up of
floculus and nodulus
Describe primary fissure
runs laterally, separted anterior lobe from posterior lobe
Describe postero-lateral fissure
separates posterior lobe from floculo-nodular lobe
How do you make the cerebellum
folia increase surface area, shape if stretched out: have anterior lobe, primary fissue, posterior lobe, postero-lateral fissure, and flocular-nodular lobe
functional regions of the cerebellum
-vermis- worm like centre region
-intermediate- medial 1/3 next to vermis
-lateral- lateral region
-flocculo-nodular- contain floculus and nodulus
Identify cerebellar nuclei associated with regions
-dentate= lateral zone
-interposed= intermediate zone, includes globos nuclei and imboliform nuclei
-fastigial nucelus= vermis + flacculonodular zone
Accronym for cerebelar nuclei
DEGF (dont eat greasy food):
dentate (laterally), emboliform, globose, fastigial nuclei (medially)
Describe white matter of the cerebellum and what it includes
-Axons from cortex to deep cerebellar nuclei and nuclei to CNS as cerebellar peduncles
Describe cerebellar peduncles
-broad bands of white matter. ALl information carried to and from cerebellum via cerebellar peduncles,
-at pons level, wraps around the pons and enters into cerebellum
Identify cerebellar peduncles
-superior, middle, inferior
Function of superior cerebellar peduncle
Mostly carrying outputs from cerebellum once processed
Function of middle and inferior peduncles
-carrying info coming into cerebellum, then it is processed
Describe processing of information in the cerebellum
Info into cerebellum, processing in grey outer (cortex) region- transfered to deep cerebellar nuclei and outputs back out of cerebellum
