Lecture 14: Body Fluids Flashcards
Name the anatomical parts of the kidney
Capsule, Renal cortex (Bowman’s capsule, PCT and DCT), Renal medulla (renal pyramids), Renal pelvis (major/minor calyces)
Cortical nephrons
Glomeruli are located in outer cortex and have short loops of Henle
Juxtamedullary nephrons
Glomeruli are located deep in renal cortex near medulla and have long loops of Henle; have long efferent arterioles associated with peritubular capillaries
About how much of the total cardiac output do the kidneys receive?
1100 ml/min
How do efferent arterioles help regulate hydrostatic pressure in capillaries?
High hydrostatic pressure in glomerular capillaries causes rapid fluid filtration; Low hydrostatic pressure in peritubular capillaries permits rapid fluid reabsorption
List the blood flow to the kidney
Rental artery, interlobar arteries, arcuate arteries, intralobar arteries, afferent arterioles, glomerular capillaries
List the blood flow from the kidney
Efferent arterioles, peritubular capillaries, intralobar veins, arcuate veins, interlobar veins, renal veins
