Lecture 11- Q3 Flashcards
What are two important factors for sterilization?
Time and Temperature
What is blood borne Transmission?
Transfer of blood borne pathogens from an infected host to a susceptible person
Which patient-care items has the highest risk of spreading infection?
- critical
- semi critical
- non critical
critical
How should semi critical instruments be cleaned?
with heat sterilized
If heat sterilization is not tolerated by semi critical material what level disinfectant should be used?
high level
Dental handpieces are critical or semi critical?
semicritical
How can non critical objects be cleaned?
low-level disinfectant. If visibly soiled with blood, clean and disinfect with intermediate level
Instrument processing must be done correct everytime. The 4 steps to sterilization are:
- cleaning- the most important step clearing away debris
- prepare and package- wrapping or bagging
- sterilize- use of heat or chemical to kill spores
- store- dry area
How does an autoclave kill spores?
High temperature and pressure
What are some monitors used to asses sterilization
- mechanical- visibile gauge
- Chemical- change colors
- biological- no growth of spores indicates sterilization
Do you monitor your sterilizations by keeping record
yes
The minimal temperature required for sterilization by an autoclave is:
250 degrees
For dry heat sterilization at a temperature of 320, how long does it take to sterilization instruments?
2 hours
List three examples of a critical dental instrument
- scalers
- scalpel blades
- dental burs
List three examples of a semi critical dental instrument
- mouth mirror
- impression trays
- handpieces
