Lecture 10 Flashcards
Clinical contact surfaces
Surfaces that may be directly contacted by contaminated instruments, devices, gloves or hands
housekeeping surfaces
- Surfaces that require regular cleaning to remove soil and dust
- Avoid use of carpet and fabric in dental operatories walls, floors, office furniture
- requires regular cleaning
Should we wear PPE when performing cleaning and disinfection procedures
Yes
When should dental units be cleaned and disinfected
- beginning of every day
- end of everyday
- in between patients
- if barriers are compromised or surfaces are contaminated
To disinfect a surface you should wear____
PPE
When disinfecting you should allow surface to remain moist how long?
For contact time stated by manufacturer
Why no spray/wipe/spray technique or why do we use wipes no spray
aerosols
What does a barrier wrap do
covers all clinical contact surfaces
What do you do between removing gloves and placing a fresh cover
wash hands
Low level disinfectants
house hold cleaners kills microorganisms
Intermediate level disinfectant
tuberculocidal
High level disinfectant
destroys all microorganisms but not necessarily high numbers of bacterial spores
What is as important as the disinfection process
physical removal of microorganisms by cleaning
Is that a chemical agent that meets ALL disinfecting requirements?
No- but some are pretty good
What important factors are considered for selecting disinfectant?
- degree of antimicrobial killing required
- nature of surface/item to be treated
- cost, safety, and ease of product use
