Everyday personalised activities that people do as individuals, in families, and with communities to occupy time and bring meaning and purpose to life.

- Often require more complex interactions than ADLs.

Define Rest and Sleep.
Activities related to obtaining restorative rest and sleep to support healthy, active engagement in other occupations.
What is the difference between rest and sleep?
- Rest: relaxing activities aiming to restore energy, calm, and renewed interest in engagement
- Sleep: a series of activities resulting in going to sleep, staying asleep, and ensuring health.
What is the definition of Education in the context of occupations?
Activities needed for learning and participating in the educational environment.
What is the definition of Work?
Labor or exertion related to the development, production, delivery, or management of objects or services.

Define Play and Leisure.
- Play: activities that are intrinsically motivated, internally controlled, and freely chosen
- Leisure: nonobligatory activity that is intrinsically motivated and engaged in during discretionary time.
What is the definition of Social Participation?
Activities that involve social interaction with others, including family, friends, peers, and community members, that support social interdependence.

What are the properties of occupation?
- Form: observable action
- Function: functional purpose
- Meaning: significance to the individual.
How is occupation used in occupational therapy?
- As a means: using occupation therapeutically in the intervention process
- As an end: engaging patients in meaningful occupation.
Provide an example of using occupation as a mean and end.
- Mean: Planning a meal to train memory and problem-solving skills.
- End: Patient is able to do meal planning for his/her family when returning home.
