Lecture-1 Flashcards
1
Q
What are the two forms of chromatin?
A
Heterochromatin (condensed, transcriptional inactive, often ATs) and Euchromatin (unravelled, can be transcribed, contains coding regions)
2
Q
What is chromatin
A
DNA wound round histone proteins
3
Q
Giemsa: G banding
A
Chromosomes treated with trypsin to digest proteins, then stained with giemsa dye that binds phosphate groups. Dark bands form with more AT pairs (heterochromatin)
