Lecture 1 Flashcards
What are the anatomical/laymen terms? Also, what kind of joints are these?
- Metacarpophalangeal jt. aka Fetlock jt.
- Proximal interphalangeal jt. aka Pastern jt.
- Distal interphalangeal jt. aka Coffin jt.
Synovial & Hinge Joints! (Equids)
Which type of locomotion is characterized by walking on the toes, with the heel elevated off the ground?
Car: Digitigrade
Which type of locomotion is characterized by walking only on the distal phalanx, with the rest of the foot elevated off the ground?
Equids: Unguligrade
What are the anatomical terms? What are their actions?
- Antebrachiocarpal jt, Hinge jt (flexion/extension), in Canine/Feline & Biaxial jt (flexion/extenion & adduction/abduction) in Equid/Bovid.
- Midcarpal jt, Hinge jt (flexion/extension)
- Carpometacarpal jt, Plane or gliding; no movement
What is the anatomical term for this joint? What is the action?
- Distal radioulnar jt.
What is the anatomical term for this joint? What is the action?
- Proximal radioulnar jt.
Pivot jt. (pronation/supination)!
What is this composite joint and what are the three anatomical names for these articulations joints? What are the actions?
- Elbow jt.
- Humeroulnar jt. (green)
- Humeroradial jt. (orange)
- Proximal radioulnar jt. (pink)
2 & 3 are hinge jts (flexion/ extension)!
Name these anatomical structures.
- Extensor retinaculum (blue)
- Flexor retinaculum (green)
- Both hold down carpal/digital extensor tendons
2 also forms the carpal canal!
What is the anatomical name of this joint? What are the actions?
- Scapulohumeral jt.
- Flexion, extension, abduction, adduction, rotation of the shoulder
What three muscles stabilize the shoulder joint?
- Supraspinous fossa
- Infraspinous fossa
- Subscapular fossa
