Q

Performance Modelling: systems-based approach

A

“Consciously organized” series of processes, arranged to accomplish a predetermined goal
Greater organization = greater transfer of training

Q

Step 1: Goal Setting

A

Contextually relevant and realistic
- Current level of individual
Comparable team standards and literature
Objective and quantifiable
- ‘Actionable’ measures
- Ongoing evaluation
Include the athlete and the coach
- Interdisciplinary approach

Identify a main progressive goal
- can be influenced by initial and going testing/monitoring

Sub-Goals of short and medium length can support achieving the primary goal

Sub-goals will influence the testing battery (and by association exercise selection)

Step 2: Needs Analysis

A

“Preliminary assessment of the specific demands of and unique characteristics of the sport being prepared for”

Performance Correlates
- Biomechanical demands
- Physiological Demands
- Normative Data
- Injury Epidemiology

Step 3: Design a Test Battery

A
  • Normative Data vs. Peer Data
  • Valid and Reliable methods
  • Testing vs Monitoring

Q

Step 4: Exercise Selection

A
  • Link to needs analysis (performance correlates) and performance assessments
  • Timing of the program

“Designing a program to target improvement in the identified qualities for elite performance (Step 2 and 3) will aid in the progression of the athlete toward their specified performance goal (Step 1)
