Lec 9/17 Flashcards
what are 4 basic tissue types?
epithelial, CT, muscle, neural tissue
where to find epithelial tissue?
cover surfaces, line cavities, line tubes
what are functions of epithelial tissues?
protection(abrasion, chemicals, bacteria), reduction of friction, transcellular transport, secretion, absorption of nutrients, selective permeabilty, detection of sensations, excretion, forming glands. movement of mucus
epithelium on skin, oral and nasal mucosae originates from what embryonic layer?
ectoderm
epithelium lining of gut, respiratory tract, liver, pancreas originates from what embryonic layer?
endoderm
epithelium lining of blood vessels and body cavities originates from what embryoinic layer?
mesoderm
what is lining of blood vessels called?
endothelium
what is lining of body cavities?
mesoderm
what are 2 categories or epithelial tissues?
surface epithelia (sheet of cells covering internal or external surfaces), glands(structures that produce secretion secretions, originate from invaginated epithelial cell)
what is surface epithelium composed of?
cellular layer and basement membrane (thin, noncellular layer consisting of basal lamina and lamina reticularis)
lamina lucida
-basal lamina, houses transmembrane laminin receptors, integrin, dystroglycans, glycoproteins(laminin, entactin, per)
