Lec 20-21 Flashcards
1
Q
Hox genes
A
Encodes transcription factors, regulate expression of development genes
2
Q
What differences in DNA are used to identify people?
A
Short tandem repeats: short DNA sequences to repeat varied amount of time in different people
3
Q
What enzymes/molecules need to be added for PCR to replicate the gene of interest?
A
DNA polymerase, primers, free nucleotides
4
Q
CRISPR/CAS9 in bacteria
A
- When virus invades, CAS1/2 protein reads and copies segment of virus’s genetic code
- CAS1/2 protein inserts copy in CRISPR region of bacteria genome
- Viral sequences transcribed and attach to CAS9
- CAS9 searched cell to match sequence. When virus invades CAS9 cuts virus up
5
Q
CRISPR/CAS9 for DNA manipulation
A
Creates gRNA complementary to sequence thats getting edited, insert gRNA with CAS9 to cell to fix mutation. Can add sequence of DNA to rebuild gene
