Miles and snow argue that there are 3 generic strategies:
Defender: most stable changes, high quality but low Standards or Price and operationally efficiency with economies of scale
Prospector: create changes in its market, new products/market, innovative and flexible
Analyser - follow changes very quickly, a stable domain of core products but very quickly introducing better products, combination of defender and analyser

Alignment types:
Business alignment is the degree to which the higher level, externally focused business strategies are aligned with lower level, internally doves business infrastructure and processes
Intellectual alignment - degree business strategy supports, and is supported by the it strategy
It alignment - degree to which high level it strategies are aligned with low level internally focused it processes
Operational alignment - lower level internally focused operational level of alignment deals with how the business structure and processes align with it
