Leaves Flashcards
Factors effecting rate of transpiration
- Bright light
- High temps
- high wind
- high humidity (decrease)
How does high humidity effect rate of transpiration
Decrease rate
water struggle to leave leaf
higher conc of water outside leaf
How does high wind effect rate of transpiration
Increase rate
wind brushes against leaf moving things out way of stoma
rate of diffusion faster
How does high temp effect rate of transpiration
Increase rate
increase rate of reaction
Describe the environment in which plants with sunken stomata are found and explain how this adaptation helps them to survive
They are found in dry habitats. The sunken stomata trap moist air which reduces diffusion and reduces water loss.
Features of a cross section of a leaf
Cuticle Upper and lower epidermis Palisade mesophyll Spongy mesophyll Guard cells and stomata
Transport systems in plants
Xylem and phloem
Function palisade mesophyll
Photosynthesis
Function of cuticle
Waxy layer minimise water loss
Function of upper epidermis
Protect
describe the role of xylem
transports water through transpiration stream
describe the role of phloem
transports sugars using translocation
What is transpiration
when plants absorb water through roots
