Leaves Flashcards
Midvein
The strengthened vein down the middle of a flower petal or leaf
Midrib
The central, thick, linear structure that runs along the length of a plant thallus or lamina.
Glands
a plant structure which secretes one or more products
Bundle sheath
The bundle sheath in a leaf is a layer of compactly arranged parenchyma surrounding the vasculature (Esau, 1965) and is a conduit between the vasculature and the mesophyll cells.
SHade leaves
Leaves which grow in the shade (‘shade leaves’) are generally larger in area but thinner than leaves which grow in full sunlight
Leaves of arid Region
In growing environments with extremely arid conditions, the plants will generally have thicker more leathery leaves.
Hypodermis
The outermost layer of cells in the plant cortex, lying immediately below the epidermis.
Leaves of aquatic Areas
Their leaves are firm and remain flat to absorb more sunlight
Storage leaves
thick leaves underground that store starch
Flower pod leaves
A pod is a case that holds a plant’s seeds.
Window leaves
Leaf window, also known as epidermal window, and fenestration. is a specialized leaf structure consisting of a translucent area through which light can enter the interior surfaces of the leaf where photosynthesis can occur.
Reproduktive leaves
In these plants, the reproduction occurs through the leaves. The newly formed leaves which are tiny plants detach from the parent plant and grow into a mature plant once it touches the soil.
Floral leaves
a modified leaf that is part of a flower
Automnal Leaf color change
Leaves change color during the autumn because the amounts of pigments change as the leaves prepare to fall from the trees. All leaves gradually lose chlorophyll during the growing season, and this loss accelerates before leaf fall.
