learning theory Flashcards
what type of conditioning is cupboard love
operant
what is this
food is an unconditioned stimulus and the mother is the conditioned stimulus that becomes associated with the pleasure of food
what is drive reduction theory
children love those who feed them
hunger is a primary drive, attachment is a secondary drive
learned by an association between the caregiver and satisfaction
what is the role of classical conditioning
an association caregiver (mother) starts as a nuetral stimulus
over time becomes associated with food (ucs) and produces the conditioned response (cr) of pleasure
what is the role of operant conditioning
strengthens attachment
crying leads to a response from the caregiver (feeding)
babies hunger drive is removed- negative reinforcement (occurs when somethings uncomfortable)
caregiver receives neg reinforcement when crying stops
stimulus generalization can be used
multiple attachments are a generalization of the mothers conditioning
what does it suggest about how e are born
children are born as ‘blank slates’
experience is key to learning
observable behaviours can be measured and used to understand people
children attach to a caregiver because the caregiver is the provider of food
