Learning theory Flashcards
What is classical conditioning
Learning to associate 2 stimuli together to produce the same response
What is the unconditioned stimulus
Food
What is the unconditioned response
Food giving us pleasure
What is the neutral stimulus
Caregiver
What becomes the conditioned stimulus
The caregiver
What becomes the conditioned response
The sight of the caregiver provides a response of pleasure
What is operant conditioning
Involves learning from the consequences of behaviour
What can operant conditioning explain
Why babies cry for comfort
What does crying lead to in operant conditioning
A response from the caregiver e.g feeding. Baby is reinforced
Why does the caregiver receive negative reinforcement
Because they crying stops - so something negative is taken away
Who proposed learning theory
