Learning Theory Flashcards
Classical conditioning
PAVLOV
The process of learning in which one stimulus is paired with another stimulus, to elicit a specific emotional response
Operant conditioning
B.F SKINNER
Is when the consequences of a response determine the probability of it being repeated.
Behaviour which is reinforced will likely be repeated, with punished behaviour occurring less frequently.
Positive reinforcement
Good things are added to increase or maintain behaviour
Negative reinforcement
Bad things are removed to increase maintain behaviour
Positive punishment
Bad things are added to decrease behaviour
Negative punishment
Good things are removed to decrease behaviour
Reinforcement
Refers to consequences that increase the likelihood of a particular behavioural response
Punishment
Refers to a consequence that decreases the likelihood of a particular behavioural response
Law of effect
Responses that produce rewards will tend to increase in frequency
Escape conditioning
Response is more likely to occur in the future if the negative stimulus is removed immediately after the response
Avoidance conditioning
Occurs before the aversive event takes place
