Learning Theories Practical Flashcards
1
Q
Aim
A
- To investigate if there is a relationship between the usage of reinforcements and punishments and the strictness of teachers
2
Q
Alternative Hypothesis
A
- There will be a significance between the reinforcement/punishment behaviour between strict and non strict teachers
3
Q
What type of study?
A
- Using a covert observation, therefore the participant would behave more naturally
- Non participant, therefore the participant will not be self conscious about being observed and behave more naturally
4
Q
Punishments in the Study
A
- Shouting
- SLT
- Making fun
5
Q
Reinforcements in the study
A
- Praise
- Positive body language
6
Q
How is quantitative data will be collected?
A
- Use behavioural categories and count the frequency of how many times each punishment or reward the teacher uses
- Such as Praise/Shouting
7
Q
How qualitative data will be collected?
A
- Event and Time sampling
- Write down descriptive information by observing a teacher in a classroom for a lesson
- Every 10 minutes we would write down what they are doing
- Such as Humming/Tapping with their pen
8
Q
How to analyse data?
A
- Use Chi squared test
- To test of association whether to see if there is a relationship between the usage of punishments and reinforcements and the strictness of teachers
- Use the 0.05 significance and if the value is lower than the significance, reject Ho
9
Q
Strength of the Practical
A
- Natural and covert observation
- Natural:
Participants natural and spontaneous behaviour as it happens in the participant’s natural habitat
These types of observation are more likely to be covert which can have ethical issues - Covert:
Participants beave more naturally as they are not aware they are being observed
Ethical issues as observing people without their knowledge means they could not have given informed consent
