Biological Practical Flashcards
1
Q
Aim
A
- To investigate the relationship between digit ratio and physical aggression score
2
Q
One-Tailed Hypothesis
A
- There is a negative correlation between the digit ration of people and their physical aggression score
- If the digit ratio is lower, the physical aggression score should be higher
3
Q
Null Hypothesis
A
- There is not correlation between digit ratio and physical aggression score
4
Q
Sample
A
- An opportunity sampling method was used
- I utilised my Psychology classmates as my participants as they were the most accessible
- The sample included 10 students aged from 16-18 year old
- There was 5 boys and 5 females
5
Q
Analysis
A
- As this is a correlational study a Spearman Rho correlation test was utilised to see if the correlation between the two covariables were significant
- 0.05 significance level
6
Q
Procedure
A
- Informed consent was gained from the participants as they were informed that they would be measuring their fingers and also doing a questionnaire
- Participants were told they had the right to withdraw
- The participants were given a QR code to the Buss Perry aggression test and were asked to answer honestly and were given 10 minutes to complete
- Participants were instructed to measure the length of their ring and index finger using a ruler
- The ratio between the two were measure
7
Q
Finding
A
- Men had significantly lower digit ratio compared to women
- Had higher aggression scores on the Buss Perry Questionnaire
8
Q
Improvement
A
- Increase the number of participants
- MAY NOT BE REPRESENTATIVE OF THE AGGRESSION AND TESTOSTERONE LEVELS OF THE GENERAL POPULATION
9
Q
Weakness of the study
A
- Low population validity
- 10 participants who were members of our class, 16-18 year old in a British Sixth Form college
- Therefore the relationship between digit ration and physical aggression may not be representative of other age groups
10
Q
Strength of the study
A
- It was correlational
- This allows us to investigate the relationship between aggression and a factors that we cannot ethically nor practically
- This allows us to identify relationships between testosterone and behaviour that otherwise cannot be investigated
