Learning Outcome 11: Understand Quality in the context of a project Flashcards
What is the purpose of Quality Planning
To ensure that the project output conforms to the mutually agreed requirements, specifications, and expectations.
What are the five elements of Quality Planning?
- Establishing Quality Objectives
- Identifying Quality Requirements
- Defining Quality Standards
- Developing Quality Management Plan
- Developing Quality Metrics.
What is the Establishing Quality Objectives element of Quality Planning?
Establishing Quality Objectives - these should be smart and can be related to product quality, service quality, process quality or a combination of them.
What is the Identifying Quality Requirements element of Quality Planning?
Identifying Quality Requirements - these are specific characteristics that the product must have to meet customer expectations, this can include performance, safety, reliability, durability, usability, and other factors that are important to the customer.
What is the Defining Quality Standards element of Quality Planning?
These are the specific criteria that a product must meet in order to meet the quality requirements. These can be established by the organisation, or by regulatory bodies, they can include in dust industry safety standards, customers specifications, and internal quality policies and procedures.
What is the Developing Quality Management Plan element of Quality Planning?
Developing Quality Management Plan - the plan outlines the quality procedures policies and standards that will be used to achieve the quality objectives the plan should also identify the resources, roles, responsibilities, and timelines required for successful implementation.
What is the Developing Quality Metrics element of Quality Planning?
Developing Quality Metrics - these are the measurements that will be used to evaluate the success of the quality plan , metrics can include customer satisfaction ratings, defect rates, process cycle times, and other indicators of quality performance.
What are the characteristics of Quality Control?
The set of activities that are undertaken to ensure that a product or service meets the specified quality standards.
The main aim of QC is to detect and eliminate defects or discrepancies in the final product or service.
Activities may include inspecting, testing, and evaluating products or service services to identify any deviations from the quality standards
What are the characteristics of Quality Assurance
The planned and systematic activities that are implemented to ensure that a product or service meets the customers’ expectations.
Focused on preventing defects or deviations from quality standards from occurring in the first place.
May include creating and implementing quality plans, performing audits, and monitoring and analysing data to identify areas for improvement.
What are the similarities between Quality Control & Quality Assurance
Both focussed on improving the quality of products or services.
Both use tools and techniques to achieve objectives
Both are important elements of the Quality Management
What are the difference between Quality Control & Quality Assurance
Quality Control is - Focus on detecting defects.
Reactive.
Carried out at the end of the process.
Limited to the final product.
Designed to ensure that the final output meets specified quality standards
Quality Assurance - Focus on preventing defects.
Proactive.
Carried out throughout the process.
Covers the whole process.
Ensures that the process delivers an output that meets the users’ requirements and expectations
