Learning By Association Flashcards
Our minds seem programmed to connect events that occur together in time and space
Associative Learning
Largely based on forming associations, or links, between events
Learning
Meat powder to a dog
Unconditioned Stimulus
Resulting saliva flow of the meat powder fed to the dog
Unconditioned Response
A stimulus that had no initial effect on the dog’s salivation
Neutral Stimulus
The bell to a dog after being rung right before feeding time (the unconditioned stimulus)
Conditioned Stimulus
The dog’s salivation to the bell (or neutral/conditioned stimulus)
Conditioned Response
The process of unlearning or removing a conditioned association
Extinction
The next day, or after a rest period, the fear response will return
Spontaneous Recovery
The fear response (CR) is generalized to other stimuli that are similar to the original CS
Generalization
Learning to recognize the difference between the stimuli (the CS and NS) and showing the fear response only in the presence of a CS
Discrimination
