Q

Main assumptions

A
  • behaviour learnt through environment
  • learned from observing and reinforcement and punishment
  • imitation more likely to occur if we identify with the model

Q

Key concept of SLT

A
  • we observe and pay attention to these models and code their behaviour in memory and then we imitate the behaviour observed

A

The observer will take into account the consequences of the behaviour were for the model and then decide wether to imitate behaviour

The observer is directly reinforced or punished were they to imitate model

Q

What is the meditational process

A

Individuals do not automatically observe the behaviour of the model and imitate it there is prior thought

Retention

A

Coe behaviour by placing it into LTM enable memory behaviour to be retrieved at a later date

A

Individualist be capable of reproducing behaviour possessing skills and capabilities to carry out behaviour

Q

Motivation

A

Rewards and punishment that follow the modelled behaviour will be considered by the behaviour
Rewards out way costs more likely to imitate behaviour

Q

Banduras research

A

Procedure:
-children 3-6 observed adult model behaviour in an either aggressive or non aggressive way towards a bob doll for 10 mins
- Aggressive model: hit bob doll and shouted abuse
- children made to wait ina second room where they where no allowed tops with toys
- taken into 3rd room where they could play with dolls

Finding
- children who observed behaviour more likely to imitate aggressive behaviour
- boys more aggressive
- imitation greater if model was same gender of child
- further research: more likely to image model if child saw the model being rewarded for aggressive behaviour

Q

Strengths

A
  • takes into account thought process: acknowledges that it plays a role in wether a observer imitates model, proves more comprehensive explanation of human learning by recognising role of meditational processes
  • explains behaviour of children: explains initiation of certain behaviours like smokers and also cultural differences in behaviour it cannot adequately account for how we develop a whole range of behaviours including thoughts and feeling however not a full dilation for all all behaviour particular when a person has a role model in a persons life to imitate behaviour

Q

Weaknesss

A

Barduras ideas where based on observations of behaviour of children in a lab experiments, ppts respond o demand characteristics limiting vanity of findings

Natures vs nurture debate
Criticised for its commitment to just environment influences behaviour, limiting to secrete behaviour in terms of either nature or nurture, undermine the complexity of human behaviour more likely behaviour is due to the interaction of nature and nurture, undermine biological influences eg baduras bobo doll study boys where costly more aggressive then girls despite observing he same model perform behaviour
