Q

Procedural memory

A
  • implicit memory
  • Perceptual motor learning and mental operations
    • Long term (riding a bike)
  • does not depend on structure of temporal lobe
  • process of storage unkown (could possibly be the striatum)

Q

What are the three major synaptic pathways of the hippocampus

A
  • Perforant-pathway- Entorhinal cortex to granele cells of the dentate gyrus (DG)
  • Mossy-fiber pathway- Dentate gyrus (DG) to the CA3
  • Schaffer collateral pathway- CA3 cells to CA1

Q

Hebb’s rule

A

-Neurons that fire together wire together

  • As neurons continue to fire on the same sequence the same presnaptic firing is able to creater a creater postsynaptic firing. This leads to a long synapse that can last minutes, days, etc. This is called long term potentiation.
  • The increase synapses lead to long term potentiation (LTP) which thus leads to more connections (synaptic plasticity).
