Leading & Lagging strand Flashcards
1
Q
How is the leading strand formed?
A
By continuous replication in a 5’ to 3’ direction.
2
Q
How is the lagging strand formed?
A
By discontinuous replication built up in Okazaki fragments, in a 5’ to 3’ direction.
3
Q
What is a primer?
A
A short sequence of nucleotides already joined together and says when to start DNA replication.
4
Q
What does helicase enzyme do?
A
Unzips DNA up until a replication fork, breaking hydrogen bonds.
