‘The Pope does not play the most important role in the Catholic Church’ Respond to this question with arguments for/ against and conclude with your own opinion. Refer to Christian teaching.
For:
* The Priest is the most important as he is the one who directly and personally spreads the word of God to individuals, giving more specific teachings.
* All the members of the church play a more important role because they are an example of how to live a catholic life and are the people and servants of God.
* Cardinals arethe most important becuase they are the ones with the power to elect the Pope and determine the direction and important decisions of the church.
Against:
* He creates the papal encyclical which guides both bishops in their diocese and Catholics with their religion.
* St Peter was the first pope and was Jesus’ responsibkity and authority was passed onto him. He also was the one to spread the word of God. This shows the importance of the Pope
* He overseas the whole of the Catholic church adn makes the mist important decisions of belief and morality on the catholic church.
Conclusion:
I think that the Pope is the mostimportant as he is at the top of the hierarchy and provides a directlink to Jesus thriugh his desendant of St Peter and the authority passed down to him. This is shown as Peter is described as a ‘rock’ which shows Jesus’ direct faith and trust in the Pope
