Explain Maslow’s hierarchy of needs with reference to motivators (attract staff if included) or demotivators (deters staff if not included).

- Physiological and 2. Safety needs (Demotivators)
- Belongingness/social needs, 4. Esteem needs and 5. Self-actualisation (Motivators). The higher the employees are in the hierarchy, the more engaged they are.

Explain Herzberg’s hygeine theory
A
The theory that employers are motivated by 2 levels (hygiene and motivators):
Hygiene factors (salary, job security, working conditions, etc) prevent dissatisfaction.
Motivators (achievement, recognition, possibility of growth, advancement, responsibility, engaging work, etc) provide general satisfaction.
