Q

Explain the Trait Model

A

All good leaders follow the same traits.
Kirkpatrick and Locke (1991) found traits that make a good leader: self-motivated, flexible, intelligent, creative, confident.
Judge and Cable (2004) found that 24/26 times the taller candidate won in a political election - and better looking!

Q

Explain the Function and Style

A

To be a good leader, you need to follow a certain style and function. Lewin and White (1939) taught leadership to adults, who were in charge of children’s after school clubs: autocratic (dictator), democratic (listens to majority) and laissez-faire (hands off). They found that no matter what, leadership can be taught.
Bales (1950) found that their is 2 functions: instrumental (lead everyone) and socio-emotional (keep everyone happy).
