LE3 Flashcards
It is is a result of socio-economical, technological and institutional activities.
It is the deterioration of the environment through the exhaustion of natural resources such as air, water and soil.
Environmental degradation
It is basically defined as any change or disturbance to the environment which are undesirable.
Environmental degradation
What are the causes of Environmental degradation
Increasing human population,
Increasing economic growth,
Resource depleting and polluting technological advancements.
Give 4 examples of environmental degradations
Greenhouse Effect,
Acid Rain,
Smog,
Nuclear Radiation
It is a natural process that warms the Earth’s surface. When the Sun’s energy reaches the Earth’s atmosphere, some of it is reflected back to space and the rest is absorbed and re-radiated by greenhouse gases.
Greenhouse effect
Refers to a mixture of wet and dry deposited materials from the atmosphere containing higher than normal amounts of nitric and sulfuric acid.
It is is a result of man-made activities which emit sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides, basically from fossil fuel combustion.
Acid Rain
It is a brownish haze that pollutes our air. Hazardous to the health for it may cause difficulty in breathing.Primary component is ozone, a gas created when Nitrogen Oxide reacts with other chemicals in the atmosphere under strong sunlight.
Smog
Give 5 examples of renewable energy
Solar Energy,
Wind Energy,
Ocean Energy,
Biomass
It is radiantlightandheatfrom the sun harnessed using a range of technologies such as photovoltaics.
Solar Energy
What are the effects of acid rain
Acidifies lakes and streams,
Accelerates the decay of building materials and paints,
Causes slower growth, injury or death of forests,
Causes health problems.
