LE special tests Flashcards
Quadrant square hip test
PP - Supine
Flex and adduct hip until resistance, holding knee and tibia
After resistance, move in arc to ABD
If no pain repeat while pressing through femur
Positive - pain, clicking, popping, apprehension
Indicates - Anterior Hip joint - Posterior SI
Patrick’s/ Faber test
Tests SI joint dysfunction
Patient supine, testing limb’s heel placed on opposite knee
lower knee towards table, stabilize on contralateral hip
Positive - involved lower extremity does not abduct below level of other leg
Indicates - iliopsoas, sacroiliac, hip joint abnormalities hip flexor tightness,
posterior pain is SI pathology
Anterior labrum / FADDIR
Patient supine Resist hip flexion With hand on knee and ankle Take patient into flexion abduction Arc them into adduction Positive - pain clicking popping apprehension Anterior labral lesions
Posterior labrum test
Patient supine
Resist hip flexion
With hand on knee and distal tibia flex and adduct the hip
Arc into abduction
Positive - clicking, popping, pain, apprehension
Indicates - posterior labral injury
Craig’s test/ ryder test
Tests femoral anteversion and retroversion
Prone, 90 knee, rotate leg until greater trochanter is most prominent laterally
Measure angle of tibia perpendicular to the floor, with tibial tuberosity as fulcrum
8-15 normal
Under 8 retroversion, legs turn inward
Over 15 anteversion, legs turn outward
Stable lachman
Supine, open pack
Stabilize distal femur over knee, grab posterior tibia
Anteriorly glide the tibia on the femur, “snap at the end”
Pain, laxity
ACL injury
Anterior drawer / posterior (PCL)
Supine, plant heel on bed, 90 knee flexion, sit on foot
Pull on posterior or push anteriorly tibia to anterior glide the knee
Pain, laxity
ACL injury
