LE Exam MC Flashcards
Concerning bone
Osteocyte can resorb bone
Lacunae house the osteoclasts
Concerning bone adaptation
Increased osteoblast activity will increase bone deposition
Osteoporosis probably occurs in the elderly bc of activity and hormonal changes
Bone mass may increase even though reposition increases
Concerning the vascular system
The great saphenous vein is not accompanied by an artery
The obturators artery branches from the internal iliac artery
Functions of the lymphatic system
Responsible for the immune system response to pathogens
Responsible for lipids (fat) resorption from the intestines
Responsible for maintaining blood volume
Lymph organs
Thymus
Spleen
Bone marrow
Tonsils
Lymph fluid enters the venous system…
At the junction of the subclavian vein and internal jugular vein
Lymphatic systems…
Lymph nodes are located in clusters throughout the body and are responsible for filtering (purifying) lymph fluid
Anatomical properties that allow for lymphatic system to prevent edema formation
Smooth muscle in the wall of the collecting vessels allows the lymphatic system to increase its’ rate of contraction thus increasing the rate of lymph transport
Lymph fluid can flow from the deep vessel system to the superficial system if the deep system is obstructed
Concerning the ankle joint
Inversion sprain will damage lateral ligaments
Eversion sprain will damage medial ligaments
Shape of the trochlea of the talus limits dorsiflexion ROM
The joint is considered a hinge
The joint is more stable in a dorsiflexed position
Concerning the foot
The talocalcaneal ligament will limit motion in all three planes
Concerning the hip joint
The ligamentum teres is NOT a significant stabilizer
The Y ligament limits hyperextension
Valves are found more abundantly in the
veins
Blood vessel connected to the right ventricle of the heart
pulmonary trunk
These vessels transport blood, but also act as reservoirs
veins
Lymph from the right leg is returned to the blood stream via the
thoracic duct
