Layers of Computer Networks Flashcards
7 layers of OSI
(from bottom to top)
- Physical Layer
- Data Link Layer
- Network Layer
- Transport Layer
- Session Layer
- Presentation Layer
- Application Layer
is aimed at consolidating the hardware requirements of a network to enable the successful transmission data.
Physical Layer
is the protocol layer that transfers data nodes on a network segment across the physical layer.
Data Link Layer
is resposible for packet forwarding including routing through intermediate routers.
Network Layer
is responsible for delivering data to the appropriate process on the host computers.
Transport Layer
provides the mechanism for opening, closing and managing a session between end-user application processes.
Session Layer
serves as the data translator for the network. Sometimes called the Syntax Layer.
Presentation Layer
specifies the shared communications protocols and interface methods used by host in a communication network.
Application Layer
