Standard for Patient Records
-current, accurate, & complete health care records integral to safe & effective
delivery of MT to patients
-documentation in timely manner ensures accurate recall of information & supports
continuity of care
-health care record is legal document that captures RMT’s decision-making process
& professional activity pertaining to his/ her patients
Advertising and Use of Title
-college’s bylaws contain rules about advertising by RMTs - all required to comply, uphold integrity of profession & protect
public from misleading/ exaggerated claims
-rules prohibit marketing activities that are false, inaccurate, misleading, or unverifiable
-important rule = restriction on use of
specialist titles
-not permitted to advertise special accreditation or competency
-restriction on use of occupational titles in advertising, may not use titles that have not been set out in Massage Therapists Regulation or approved by College’s Board
-RMTs who hold non-practising status with College may use four titles set out in
Massage Therapists Regulation only if immediately followed by “(non-practising)
Terminating A Therapeutic Relationship
-Code of Ethics outlines following circumstances for terminating therapeutic relationship:
● Therapy no longer indicated
● Patient no longer wishes to receive Tx
● Another health professional has assumed primary care responsibility
● RMT provides written notice of termination to patient
Fraudulent Use of RMT Numbers
-insurance companies often use RMT registration numbers to identify RMTs for purpose of paying third-party claims
-someone who obtains access to RMT’s registration number may be in position to use number to file false repayment claim with insurance company
-your RMT number should be carefully safeguarded
-college has no jurisdiction to investigate or take action against a non-registrant for fraud
-if registrant becomes aware of, or has reason to believe that name/registration number is being used by a non-registrant, should immediately contact local police
-numbers should not be displayed publicly, on website or elsewhere
