Law of Conservation of Momentum Flashcards
1
Q
What does the Law of Conservation of Momentum state?
A
The Law of Conservation of Momentum states that in a closed system, the total momentum before an event is equal to the total momentum after the event.

Q
When is momentum conserved?
A
Momentum is conserved in collisions and explosions. E.g. in an explosion, the momentum before is zero. After the explosion, the pieces fly off in different directions, so the total momentum cancels out to zero.
