The relevant legal duties, rights and processes that should be applied to projects, programmes and portfolios.
what are 3 areas of law a PM must take into account
- Health and safety legislation
- Employment legislation

how is civil law governed
Civil law is governed by statute which is interpreted by the judiciary and legal precedents are established through case law.
what does the data protection act control
The Data Protection Act controls how your personal information is used by organisations, businesses or the government.
there are strict rules called ‘data protection principles’ what are the 8 ways they make sure information is used
- used fairly and lawfully
- used for limited, specifically stated purposes
- used in a way that is adequate, relevant and not excessive
- accurate
- kept for no longer than is absolutely necessary
- handled according to people’s data protection rights
- kept safe and secure
- not transferred outside the UK without adequate protection
There is stronger legal protection for more sensitive information, such as these 6 examples
- ethnic background
- political opinions
- religious beliefs
- health
- sexual health
- criminal records
what are 4 examples of when organisations can withhold information - when the information is about
- the prevention, detection or investigation of a crime
- national security or the armed forces
- the assessment or collection of tax
- judicial or ministerial appointments
An organisation does not have to say why they are withholding information.
what organisations must comply with the freedom of information act 2000
If you are publicly funded, and your work is for the welfare of the whole population, you must comply with the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
